BIG ADVENTURES · BIG FEELINGS
Kensuke's Kingdom.
Two castaways learn to protect the island that shelters them.
Michael and his dog are swept from a family sailboat during a storm and wash up on a remote island. Survival becomes more complicated when Michael discovers Kensuke, a Japanese man who has lived there for decades. Their uneasy relationship grows into friendship as Michael learns about the island's animals and the threats reaching its shores.
Why it’s a little special
Hand-drawn animation gives this survival story a quiet sense of wonder, while its two central characters learn to communicate across language and experience.
BEFORE YOU PRESS PLAY
Know the story.
Know your little people.
The US PG rating cites violence, thematic content and peril. A child is separated from his family at sea, armed intruders threaten wildlife, and wartime memories include devastating loss. Animal danger and the discussion of war may be intense for sensitive viewers despite the gentle stretches of island life.
Our notes are a starting point, not an age recommendation. G and PG films can still include intense moments. You know your family best.
